This little face peeks out almost every time I climb our stairs. As I get closer, her head disappears and is replaced by swinging paws. And when I get high enough and both head and paws are in my sight, she knows the gig is up. So then this sneaky kitty rolls over on her…
And just like that…
Today this tiny tree decided that it was time to start its show. Yesterday, curtain was closed. Today, curtain’s up. It was as if the tree knew that the dreary, chilly backdrop of the day’s weather would magnify the miracle of its performance.
Well…
This about sums it up. Weekend adventures are great, but it’s taken me awhile to recover from this one. I’m wiped out. And totally wanting a smushy-faced wrinkle dog. (click on photo for source.)
Birthday Road Trip
Weekend birthday adventure with my two favorite boys took us to Memphis — Home of the Blues and the Birthplace of Rock ‘n Roll — and a stay on Beale Street! Much of our visit revolved around exploring the history of both musical genres. We started out at Sun Studio, one of the most famous…
Hello, March
Today we welcomed March with sunshine, blue skies, warm breezes…and a trip to chemo. A good day, Drew took it like a champ (as he always does) and is doing well. But it was an unusual visit in that I fell flat asleep during his treatment. Kid you not. Sitting straight up in a plastic chair,…
Out For a Walk
Flowers of different shades… …different stages of blooming… …as far as the eye can see… …and then some. (and some more!) A yard not too far from our house has a carpet of these lovely lavender blooms early every spring. Tonight I decided to take a walk and pay them a visit. Along the way…
Hello there, bear
Country Bear Jamboree is ready for Easter. Love the colors, love the sentiment…not sure about the placement of Mr. Bunny’s head.
Good Dog
Meet Maddie the Coonhound and her photographer owner Theron Humphrey. Together, these two make up one of my new favorite blogs: Maddie the Coonhound: A Super Serious Project About Dogs and Physics. This is part of a daily photo project as Humphrey travels across the country for a year with Maddie as his sidekick. I…
Can’t Help Myself
Saw this on twitter yesterday and I’ve watched it probably ten times since. It’s Friday. Indulge me.
So weird.
My rogue daffodils are back. I know I gripe about this every spring. Every year I dig the bulbs up, every year they grow back. I do not understand. The plants that I nurture, water, and care for…they die. The plants that I WANT to get rid of, they thrive. Although these suckers never bloom….
Project
A painting I’ve been working on this weekend. Not sure if it’s finished, but I’m having fun. I’ll sleep on it and look at it in the morning. But my house smells like turpentine and I love it. Although I’ve figured out that I need to learn how to photograph canvas.
A Look Outside
Growing up, our house was plunked in the middle of several thickly wooded acres way out in the middle of nowhere. As an adult, I’m plunked in the suburbs with neighboring houses within view out of literally every window. Guess who has the better bird watching? Maybe it’s simply because I didn’t pay attention when…
I spy…
A host of feathered travelers making their way in a perfectly silent line. Bright and early this morning, they were a lovely sight to start the day. Hello, weekend. I’ve missed you.
Little Recipe for Valentine’s Day
Cute little Valentine treats, made for my sweet boys. These are Mini Kiss Pies. Ingredients: 1 refrigerated pie crust (unless you’re an overachiever and make yours from scratch. I’m not.) 14 Hershey Kisses 1 egg white whisked with a tablespoon of water powdered sugar for dusting Preheat over to 350 degrees Place kisses on rolled-out…
I wanna live near this guy.
My favorite kind of street art. Art that transforms a little bit of nothing into something so unexpected — and makes us smile a whole bunch. (photo source here.)
Baby it’s cold outside
I’ve heard it said that every mile is two in winter. If that is the case, then we had a very, very long walk today. If it’s not the case, then it sure felt like it. Brrrr, it was cold out there. Jeepers. But I love how cardinals pop out like neon signs in the…
Yup, it was a thriller.
After lots of anticipation, we finally got to see the Michael Jackson The Immortal Tour by Cirque du Soleil last night! It was Tanner’s first Cirque show and only my second. And it was AH-mazing. We both really loved it. It was a little different from the Cirque that I’m familiar with in that the…
Hey, doesn’t that look like…
Ralph Waldo Emerson thought that the earth laughs in flowers. I don’t disagree, but it seems to me that acorn caps might be part of the repertoire, too. This little Wall-e-ish face staring back at me and Tanner made us crack up this afternoon. Seemed like we did a lot of “hey, doesn’t that look…
Everybody on three…one, two, three: awwwwww
These are baby round-tail ground squirrels making their very first appearances out of their burrow. If you were anywhere in the vicinity of my desk during my morning online reading today, you probably could hear me squeal when I saw this. Come ON. Look at these. I think this may be one of my favorite…
Inspired
Today a few of us took a small lunchtime art field trip to the gallery and studio of Marianist Brother Mel Meyer (more information here). He works in every medium imaginable and seems to be equally skilled in all of them — oil, watercolor, sculpture, mixed media with found objects, metal work (including furniture!)…he even…
Color Me Happy
Sixty degree temperatures on a January day calls for a celebration with super vibrant colors. The little balls in the upper left are made from recycled paper pulp and are stuffed with wildflower seeds. Yes, these cute little guys are going to produce flowers! Upper right and lower left corners are patterns in some cute…
Good News or Bad News First?
Bad news. So today when I went to the store, there was nothing but a clearance sign and empty shelf space where the Mallomars used to be. (Insult to injury: the clearance price was $1.99! Ouch.) Logical yet disturbing conclusion: Mallomar season is over. Oh, no. One of my sons is in such a panic that…
Breathtaking
God has given us the most amazing world. That is all.
Many Happy Returns
Twitter is one of my absolute favorite sources for news, humor, useless trivia, and other entertainment. Lately it has also brought our attention to a few rather odd observances. Take today, for instance. Break out the noisemakers, it’s National Peanut Butter Day. A few days ago, it was National Hug Day. There’s also been Squirrel…
Happy Chinese New Year!
Interesting factoids about the Year of the Dragon: – the dragon is the only animal in the Chinese Zodiac that isn’t real – in Chinese astrology the dragon was seen as a powerful almighty king because it was made up of different parts of animals such as a tiger, fish, snake and an eagle –…
