Kindness

Today is International Kindness Day! To mark the occasion, here is a fun mural I saw over the weekend during a road trip, along with a list of “seven ways to start making kindness the norm in your daily life” (according to a very nice random Instagram post I spotted this week): 1.) Send an…

Reality

“Your brain will constantly rewire itself to suit the information that you feed into it. If you constantly complain, gossip, find excuses, etc., it will make it much easier to find things to get upset about, regardless of what is happening around you. Likewise, if you constantly search for opportunities, abundance, love, and things to…

Sunday Scenes

Today’s leaf report: while most colors are past their peak, there’s still quite a bit of beauty and the gingko tress are just getting warmed up. There’s still some red out there! And hearts, of course.

And it was all yellow

Today’s leaf report: Gingko trees are starting to let go. Even the damp, dreary morning couldn’t dull this display. This is not my house, but I could not resist taking this photo on my way home. You know how Christmas cards sometimes depict a sweet little house enveloped in a fresh blanket of snow? This…

There it is

Today’s leaf report. I had to take the photo inside because I collected these leaves during a walk that I couldn’t finish before dark — for the first time this season. I’ve been dreading this. Although I did manage to spot and take a photo of a little tar heart before I needed a flashlight….

In Season

“May your day be full of magic and may you not be too busy to see it.” This is the season of magic. Even a leaf stuck in a fence can glow like a star during the golden hour. A leaf can also double as a doormat. Of course there’s always love, which is always…

Magic

“If you look closely, you can find magic tucked inside of ordinary moments every single day… You can see it in how your momma looks at you with boundless love, even knowing your entire story, faults and all. You can feel magic as the sun rises, filling the air with endless possibility at a new…

Nostalgia

Saudede – /souˈdädə/ – an emotional state of conspicuous melancholic or profoundly nostalgic longing for something or someone that one cares for. Tonight I took Finn for a long walk after work, which started with my normal obsession with fall leaves and colors. But then we started to notice trick-or-treaters trickling into the streets and…

No Words Necessary

“Spread the love of God through your life, but only use words when necessary.” – Mother Teresa I was looking through my photo library this evening and was startled when I noticed how many little love notes I’ve stumbled upon recently. Some I’ve already posted, but I thought it was worth posting them all as…

Remember

“There is such a difference between asking ‘what did you do today?’ versus ‘what do you want to remember about today?’” – Topher Kearby Today I want to remember an early morning walk in the park, so chilly I could see my breath in the air. And I want to remember all the red. The…

Whisper

“Almost everything you think and do is a subtle reflection of what you believe about yourself. Thus, it’s not what you broadcast to everyone else that determines the trajectory of your life; it’s what you whisper to yourself behind closed doors that has the greatest power and influence.” – @marcandangel

Lessons from Leaves

This year I’ve been noticing a lot of leaves that appear to have been tie-dyed instead of simply transitioning to a solid shade. I love how unique this makes each leaf. Even ones from the same tree can look and transition in totally different ways. (This one reminded me of a stoplight.) (If I’m not…

Golden

Yesterday I was able to close the day with a stroll around the park with my younger son. Golden hour, gorgeous weather. It was perfect. I honestly believe the light is different this time of year. It’s like viewing the world through a colored filter.

Smile

Just a bit of goofiness form the past day or two. I thought this tree looked animated thanks to these clouds/streaks. Like it has superpowers. And Cookie Monster/Muppet Man is living his best life here.

Five

“The person you will be in five years depends largely on the information you feed your mind today. Be picky about the books you read, the people you spend time with and the conversations you engage in.” – Ruben Chavez [slightly long post alert] The number five seems to be popping up a bit for…

Our Dog

My dog met a different type of dog…the wienermobile! What a surprising send-off for a weekend road trip. Only to be greeted by a gorgeous sunset once we got to our destination. Such a wonderful weekend, filled with family, friends, joy and inspiration that I continue to process.

Nailed it

“Lunch atop a Skyscraper” – Halloween edition. This house in our neighborhood nails Halloween every year. Last year their skeletons reenacted a scene from Field of Dreams. They’ve also done Game of Thrones, our founding fathers/Betsy Ross and a circus. And those are just the ones I can remember. I cannot believe the attention to…

Thirty-One

“We’ve been infected with the idea that love is an emotion only felt between two people. But love is universal. An energy. A contagious force. A gift. To offer money to a homeless person is to love. To save a worm from the sun is love. To smile at a stranger is love. To be…

This and that

“It is the small joys and little pleasures that the greatest of our days are built.” – Mary Anne Radmacher Day thirty actually had a number of small joys – something I don’t always say about a Monday. But today was kinda fun for a myriad of simple reasons. Anyway, just a very nice day….

Dolce far niente

I have a small practice of typing random tidbits into the notepad on my phone. Just a hodgepodge of to-dos, names to add to my prayer list, shopping lists, quotes I want to revisit, that sort of thing. But today as I was scrolling through my note library to locate a recipe, I noticed this…

Big Deal

“Autumn…the year’s last, loveliest smile.” – William Cullen Bryant We’re seeing hints of traditional fall colors popping up here and there, but it is an unhurried transition. In the meantime, check out this unconventional color palette from the park today. And the butterflies and bees enjoy it every bit as much as the human visitors…

Day twenty-seven delight is kinda built in: World Smile Day!
