“Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we will ever do.” – Brene Brown, from The Gifts of Imperfection
I loved this funny little character from the coffee shop this afternoon. Lemme tell ya, she was fearlessly comfortable with herself. She was owning her little owl hat, pink boots, and strong opinions. I marveled at her confidence.
As someone who has struggled mightily with self-confidence through the years, I had to wonder if this little spark plug was born with a natural level of self-assurance and will remain this way — or if she’s just too young to have met external criticisms to compromise it. I hope it’s the former.
But for those of us who aren’t born with a sense of self-assurance, I believe that we can cultivate a certain level of comfort with living authentically. And I absolutely agree that it is the bravest thing we can do. It also takes a lot of effort — and it’s necessary. When we allow ourselves to be who we really are – to really own it — we are able to give the best of ourselves to the world around us. And this is exactly what the world needs.
