So Weird.

Today my boy and I headed home after a brief road trip to Indianapolis. And I must say it was a rather…odd…trip.

First up, Brazil, Indiana. Home of the Popcorn Festival.

As much as I hate to admit it, I was intrigued. I looked it up when I got home, but alas was disappointed to learn that the festival’s glory days are behind it.

Next up, Casey, Illinois, home to the World’s Largest Wind Chime. We saw a sign for it along the highway and curiosity got the best of me. I took the exit.

Welp, there it is.

And across the street? Behold, the World’s Largest Rocking Chair.

Down the street? The World’s Largest Mailbox. And Birdcage.

And Pencil.

I didn’t get a picture of the World’s Largest Ruler and the World’s Largest Golf Tee was closed.

I have no idea what this town’s preoccupation with size is all about, but it was like we had detoured through Alice in Wonderland. It was just so weird.

And get a load of this. Guess who started a popcorn festival three years ago? You guessed it. I wonder if they’ll have the World’s Largest Popper or Kernels or something. The festival is in September. I’m just intrigued enough to think about it. But seriously, what are the odds of both of those towns – in two different states — having a popcorn festival in common??

Again, so weird.

Then there was this scene. Of course, it was just outside of Casey, Illinois. Because apparently they invented odd.

lots-of-geese

Spanning field after field, these…geese…were congregated. The photos don’t begin to do it justice. Thousands of these things were everywhere. It didn’t feel safe to get out of the car next to the interstate to photograph a bunch of honking fowl, so I took limited photos through an open car window.

The white geese looked familiar, but the ones that looked like Canadian Geese with heads dipped in cans of white paint were new.

So weird.

But now we’re home and back to normal, a fun trip behind us. By the way, if you want to know what my son’s face looks like when he’s having a bucket list wish filled, this is it. We went to see the Pacers play the Lakers so Drew could see Kobe Bryant play live and in person. Nothing weird about that. Just magic.
