Waiting…

I saw the prettiest little nests in trees on the same block today during my run…each with a ribbon woven throughout. Given the big ‘ol snow storm heading our way this evening, I think it’s going to be even longer before someone comes back to claim these lovely, artful little abodes.  Sigh.

Blur

This week has been uncomfortably busy. This is one of my busiest work weeks of the year, but I’m proud to say that I haven’t missed a workout in my training plan for the half. I have, however, missed almost an entire week of blogging. I managed to get off the dreadmill and got to…

So This is What My Kid Did Today

My kids both have a disease that cannot be cured (Neurofibromatosis Type 2 or NF2) and there is one major fundraising organization that raises money to fund research for it. Given that we’re a family of runners, we were hopeful that we could find an organized race to benefit this cause. So what is the…

Little Bit of This, Little Bit of That

A beautiful sky on a frigid morning… …a happy hour gathering of robins outside my office during the late afternoon… …and someone with a cello shopping buddy earlier this evening. It’s Friday. That’s what I’ve got. Well, maybe one more thing. I read an article this morning I thought was really great. I’m not sure…

Look Closely

I have a new obsession. It’s a twitter account called “Faces in Things” (@FacesPics). Which is exactly what it sounds like: every day objects that create a face and tons of personality. I like to think I’m a fairly attentive and appreciative observer of the weirdness that is the visual world around us, but this…

Sunday at the Garden

Early morning trek to the Botanical Garden and I saw this guy along the way. This set the tone for my adventure. I had a smile on my face for the next several hours. Here was my destination: the 2014 Orchid Show. It was more fun when I went last year with my mom, but…

Yet again….

….the local bakery is geared up for Valentine’s Day. I love them.

Sunday Smiles and Snuffleupagus

I don’t know if I overdid it yesterday or what, but my long run today…well, it sucked. Ugh, I felt like I had concrete blocks strapped to my shoes. Fortunately, I ran into one of my running buddies in a local park and she took the hills with me. Then, on my way home, this…

Look Up…Then Down

Went for a fun run with some friends this morning and loved this big fella looking down on us. Pretty thing. Then at our feet, there was this beautiful pattern in a frozen puddle. I’m so lucky to have friends who understand and even appreciate how distracted I can be.  Especially when we run.

In the eye of the beholder

“Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.” – Confucius Not everyone would agree, but I think this tree is more beautiful without leaves.

To be honest…

…today’s run was not my favorite. It was bitterly cold, my phone froze two miles in (taking my gps and music with it), and the snow, ice and slush made for uncertain footing. But I got out there, so it counts. (Goal for 2014: complete two half marathons – one in the spring, another in the fall.)

New Year

It’s amazing what you can see on the ground when your running routes take you by two or three schools. This was today’s treasure. A peaceful run on a peaceful day.

Hello, there.

Chilly afternoon walk through Powder Valley crossed my path with a rather large gathering of deer. And I’m not kidding when I tell you that I’ve seen dogs along my running route  more disturbed by my presence. These guys acknowledged me, sniffed the air, surveyed the situation, and casually went about their business. The littlest…

Dear Santa…

Me and my siblings, Christmas 1971 So today brought the last of our Christmas shopping for this year. Yes, we’d procrastinated. A lot. But after we’d run around picking up gifts and checked off all names on our lists, we settled back into the car with a sigh of relief. That’s when Tanner made a comment…

Feeling Festive

Witnessed a jazzy rendition of The First Noel next to the Fox Theater after a matinée showing of Elf. This is such a magical time of year. Everything is beautiful…cheerful…wonderful. When I saw this poem this afternoon and wondered if the author had Christmas in mind. It works. Celebration of Life Author: unknown Gather ’round and…

Cookie Envy

While I was pleased with my kids’ cookie creations from the weekend, we’ve got nothing on my favorite bakery down the street.

Tolerance?

An ornament raffle was held as a fundraiser at the office today…and this was one of my contributions. It’s not everyone’s taste, I realize. But I’m really proud of it, so please humor me as I share. I’ve never done anything like this! Given my art background, I’ve worked with a lot of other art…

Sunday Cookie Baking

Holiday baking with the kids and their friends. These are a few of the fun results.
