I spy…

…some bear sculptures with blue and green sidewalk-chalk eyes and some sweet blooms defying the oppressive heat. Happy Monday.

Next Stop: the Garden

After spending the morning with butterflies, mom and I headed to the Botanical Garden for the Orchid Show. Shapes, colors, sizes, patterns…no two were alike. These were not your Mother’s Day corsage. In addition to the orchids, we enjoyed lunch and a walk around the grounds. Here’s mom at the Japanese Garden, perfecting the art…

A little odd

On a run this weekend, I saw an iris in bloom. A big, purple, oddly timed iris. This morning, I saw a few scraggly, tiny yellow blossoms poking through the branches of an otherwise dormant forsythia bush. This afternoon, I saw several rose bushes blooming proudly among a pile of crunchy, freshly fallen autumn leaves….

Out the Window

Tonight I creeped into my neighbor’s yard to sneak some photos of her beautiful garden. (Who am I kidding. She’s used to it. She usually waves out her kitchen window.) I’m in awe of her garden not only because it’s gorgeous, but because it’s thrived in spite of having to endure the hottest, driest, most…

Balance…and the lack thereof

Today I was tickled to find out that my office has used five of my photos (including the one above) to create new thank you cards/stationary. You know, when I started taking photos a few years ago, I didn’t have any ideas of doing anything with them…which resulted in nothing more than a small blog,…

Summer!

I took this photo a long time ago, but it still says “summer” to me. Well, that, and Tinkerbell. I’ve never figured out what made this little bloom glow in the middle, so I’ve always chalked it up to this quote: “Garden fairies come at dawn, bless the flowers, then they’re gone.” On that note: happy first day…

Before I forget…

My friend Jean’s new magazine “Splendid” features a few of my photos — and you can view the whole publication if you click here. It’s really lovely. She amazes me. I could not be more thrilled/honored/silly-giddy that she included some of my work.    (My photo in this post has nothing to do with the magazine. Or anything else…

Smelling the Flowers, Catching My Breath

I’m convinced that my gym keeps beautiful landscaping near the front door so people like me have an excuse for walking slowly to the car and save face. Exhausted? Oh no, I’m not exhausted; I’m smelling the flowers. Of course my workout didn’t kick my butt; I’m admiring these blooms. (In my defense, I really…

Taking it Outside

Today, March made its exit in even more glorious fashion than it made its entrance. Oh my gosh, what a stunningly beautiful day. I decided to take advantage of this little gift by taking my 5k training outside to a local county park. I gotta tell ya, I was feeling pretty good about my progress…

Playing

Same hyacinth, three different lenses and films on the Hipstamatic. I am totally convinced that iPhoneography is the coolest thing ever. And by the way, this flower is making my office smell so beautiful.

And just like that…

Today this tiny tree decided that it was time to start its show. Yesterday, curtain was closed. Today, curtain’s up. It was as if the tree knew that the dreary, chilly backdrop of the day’s weather would magnify the miracle of its performance.

Out For a Walk

Flowers of different shades… …different stages of blooming… …as far as the eye can see… …and then some. (and some more!) A yard not too far from our house has a carpet of these lovely lavender blooms early every spring. Tonight I decided to take a walk and pay them a visit. Along the way…

At the Office

Office wildflowers might be gently starting the down slide after their peak, but they are still gorgeous. They really outdid themselves this year. Makes it fun to pull into the driveway.  And more of my photos of our office wildflowers are featured in this new publication. It makes me so happy to see my photos…
