(n) Anthophile: a person who deeply loves, appreciates, and is often mesmerized by flowers, frequently enjoying gardening, arranging bouquets, or visiting botanical gardens. Derived from Greek roots anthos (flower) and philos (loving), an anthophile is a “lover of flowers” and, in zoology, an organism that visits them.

There you have it. I will happily own the label “anthophile.” I didn’t know it was a thing, but add it to my business card, resume, whatever. You bet.

Each spring, this anthophile visits a local park to gawk at the most magnificent magnolia. It’s one of my favorite excursions of the season. This year did not disappoint.

And I’ll wager that my dog is an anthophile as well.
