“Fill your life with adventures, not things. Have stories to tell, not stuff to show.”
Last week I got to hear the stories behind some of the photos of Pete Souza, photographer to Presidents Obama and Reagan. Souza gave a talk at the Unity Temple on the Plaza in Kansas City on Thursday evening. It was fascinating. There were so many familiar photos that had really interesting back stories, not to mention composition challenges for Souza as the photographer. He was funny, blunt, and intelligent. This was absolutely worth the four-hour drive across the state.
The next morning, I stopped by the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art before heading home.
For whatever reason, I was more interested in the details of the art than the complete compositions. So the photos I took reflected that.
Of course I had to visit the ginormous shuttlecock. That’s required viewing.
This empty frame made me laugh. It just seemed so random.
After brunch in the atrium, I made my way home.
I loved this last-minute adventure.
