…in an arena not so far away…
Late last week the kids and I went to the St. Louis Blues game for Star Wars Night. It was the boys’ first game. I hadn’t been in at least 24 or 25 years. It was a nod to one’s inner geek and a nod to one’s inner jock that made for a well-rounded, fun-filled night. What a blast.
Not to mention the fact that our beloved city, still raw from the heartless departure of the Rams, was in need of some hometown pride. A ceremonial puck drop by the owners of both the St. Louis Cardinals and the St. Louis Blues had the crowd in a frenzy — and my older son in tears. Which, of course, had me in tears. This was more than a ceremonial gesture. And even bigger than a sport. This was a metaphorical hug of comfort and reassurance to a city that has been coldly discarded and insulted by an organization it had long embraced. And a lot of us needed it.
Wow! That puck drop WAS the perfect gesture. Way to go owners! St. Louis has long been a huge sports city, and to negate or deny that is just ridiculous and hurtful! So glad you had a good time.
