I found an article from one of my favorite magazines (Spirituality & Health) called 30 Journaling Prompts for Self-Discovery. I don’t know that I have any interest in “discovering” myself, but I do like answering the questions that make me think about life a little differently or push me a bit.
And there’s some really good stuff in there.
But I’m going to share my answer to #4: Make a list of 30 things that make you smile.
It was amazing how quickly that list grew. So I modified the prompt to list 30 things that made me smile this week.
.) Brilliantly colored leaves
.) Getting in my training runs in spite of the rain
.) Sleeping with the windows open
.) Friends (actual friends. Not the show. But the show is still cute.)
.) Purchasing a stuffed, talking Dug the Doug toy (from the movie Up) and having my son tell me that his life is now complete
.) Wandering the aisles of Toys R Us
.) Our local farmer’s market’s pumpkin and gourd offerings for fall
.) Pumpkin carving with my kids and friends
.) Despicable Me duck tape
.) My ever-expanding Hello Kitty candy tin collection
.) Answered prayer
.) Slobbery greetings from a clumsy Saint Bernard puppy
.) Daily Bread sugar cookies to share with the office
.) My kids’ smiles
.) Yellow nail polish from OPI’s “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” collection
.) Sunshine after days of rain and dreariness
.) Monarch butterflies passing through town on their migration route
.) Thank you notes
.) Leaf love notes
.) “This made me think of you” texts
.) Trader Joe’s flowers
.) Fruit Stripe gum
.) A mind-blowingly, absurdly, ridiculously, indescribably gorgeous sunset generating colors that cannot be replicated
.) Stella the Dog jumping in piles of leaves (video)
.) Lovey dovey cat that head-butts me for no reason
.) Netflix binges
.) Starting a new book
.) Finalizing plans for a big adventure
.) Thinking about all the things that make me smile!
Hope you had lots of things that made you smile this week, too.
