Big Birthday

My baby turned 21 today. I’m still trying to wrap my head around this.

His birthday was a little different because he was away from home, but I think he was thoroughly celebrated. Or he was for sure well fed. Asiago bagels from his aunt (above), breakfast cupcakes from his grandma, dinner with both, plus his cousin, brother and momma (I made a surprise visit). It was a good day.

This boy. I tell ya, I love this boy. My youngest child with the very old soul.

I can’t begin to know why I was lucky enough to be the one entrusted with raising this sweet guy, but I’m grateful beyond measure. His kindness, creativity, humor, adventurous spirit, and enormous heart make me want to be a better person. He’s made the most of his first 21 years. Can’t wait to see what he does with the next.

You don’t raise heroes, you raise sons. And if you treat them like sons, they’ll turn out to be heroes, even if it’s just in your own eyes. ~Walter M. Schirra, Sr.
