Breather

I’m still geeking out about this portrait of Mary and Jesus that I saw yesterday at my favorite store. It was tucked into the corner of the storefront window and I nearly missed it. In fact, I didn’t see it as I walked to the store. In all fairness, this store is the definition of visual overload – inside and out; it’s hard to take everything in. I only saw it as I walked to my car. It caught the corner of my eye as I hurried past to escape the rain that had just started to fall. When my glance caught up with my brain, I stopped in my tracks and turned back around. I just stood there and stared. I’ve never seen anything quite like this. This is not an uncommon subject matter at this time of year obviously, but I’ve never seen it treated with such whimsy, vibrancy, or … coolness. I’ve thought about calling the store to find out if they’d sell it, but I’m sort of leaning towards having this photo enlarged instead. I like that the street and its busyness is reflected in the window — and it’s all on pause thanks to this image. And what better reason to pause. THE reason to pause.
On a somewhat related note. If you’re ever feeling a beauty deficit and want a quick pick-me-up, do a search of google images for “Mary and Jesus”. So many different approaches, colors and interpretations. Very, very cool.
