Okay…Think I’ll Go Now

Tonight I took the weirdest stroll through the woods. Yeah, the leaves were starting to hint at change and the deer were magnificent as always…but the squirrels were deranged.
Seriously.
I noticed it almost as soon as I got out of the car. I could hear these weird “popping” and “thudding” noises in the trees that surrounded me. The noise was too loud to be rain, but it had the same frequency. As I started down a path, a clunk on the head was my first clue: it was raining nuts.
Correction: the squirrels were literally pelting acorns from the trees above.
And they were everywhere. It was bad enough that they were scurrying about like wind up toys on crack, but they kept making these weird throaty, cranky whirring noises — followed by the launch of acorn missiles. At first I thought I was being paranoid. But my fellow walkers looked uneasy, like they too felt the need to shield their heads with their arms.
So tonight’s stroll didn’t last too long. The fussy rodents seemed to be in crisis mode, so I left them to their winter preparations. Creepy little suckers.

I swear there is a squirrel at our house that purposely taunts the dogs. Like when it sees the dogs, it will come down from the tree and let them chance it or it will just teeter on the fence and actually make noises at the dogs to get them going.

  2. Little thing had better be careful — one of these days it's going to teeter a little too long and have a whole lotta dog to reckon with.
