Weekend road trip to see one of my oldest friends brought a visit to an art and archeology museum at MU. The original point of interest was an amazing watercolor exhibit, but the museum’s collection proved to be quite a surprise. Lots of fun stuff to take in. Here are some of my iPhone faves…
After the exhibit, we wandered around and we saw this little graffiti monster on the outside wall of a nearby store. It’s somewhat of a bohemian downtown area, so I’m guessing little monster guy is partaking of a little doobage.
Cute little guy… in an I’m-having-a-wicked-bad-trip kinda way.
I’ve made the trek to mid-Mo several times recently to help my friend through a particularly difficult time. Between the extra hours spent in the car and time spent mulling over and grieving for my friend’s circumstances, I’ve been able to do a lot of reflecting. Reflecting about people and our purpose — often with little to show for my efforts beyond a heart that aches for reasons that I can’t put a finger on.
Then I scrolled through my twitter feed when I got home today. There I found a quote from Kurt Vonnegut: “There’s only one rule that I know of, babies — God damn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
That was it. The source of my aching heart. I wish that the world could abide by this one simple (albeit blasphemous) rule, you know it? Wouldn’t the world be a better place if we all thought of kindness as our purpose?
