A long hike around Powder Valley taught me a few things today.
For example, I learned that shoes that are intended to tone your butt should not be worn while hiking. Unless, of course, you want your ankles to hurt.
I learned that there are a lot of buds and blooms that I actually recognize from last year. I may not know names yet, but I recognize plants and know what they’re going to look like in different stages of growth. I love that! (Doesn’t it look like these leaves completely busted out of their pod?
Then again, I learned that there are some sweet little wildflowers that I’ve missed in years past. Either that or I sure don’t remember them. These remind me of upside down bloomers or granny pants.
Perhaps my biggest learning is that (apparently) there are different kinds of dogwood trees.
See these little green sprouts…?
… they become these.
They look nothing like the lovely little dogwood in our front yard. Our blooms start like this…
Last but not least, I learned that I love the lingering daylight of spring and that I have missed wandering through the woods well into the evening.

Beautiful! By the way, my tulips from last week are still gorgeous!
