Saturday

Long, early hike with Drew. All kinds of kudos to my boy for going with me — it was early, cold and lightly sleeting when we got there. But he set out without complaint. And when we finished the first trail, he wanted to keep going.
Nothing extraordinary to report visually, but it was wonderful to be outside. I’ve missed it so much.
But check out the crescent moon and star in this stump. Wicked cool.
We looked like we were on a photography outing because Drew wore one of my cameras around his neck the whole time. The kids have never been particularly interested in my photo hobby, but today Drew dabbled with the cameras a bit. I’m happy to report that he was pretty stoked when he looked the viewfinder. I’ll convert these kids yet.
I took a photo of this little knot a long time ago, but I’d forgotten where I took it — until this morning. Hello again, little heart. It’s actually really tiny!
While I enjoyed being outdoors and playing with my cameras, I loved hanging with Drew the most. With three more months left in his senior year of high school, these opportunities are dwindling.
It’s a weird feeling — and not a subtle change. On one hand, I’m so proud that I’ve helped prepare these kids for a great future, but on the other… well, darn, I’m going to miss their company when they head to college. They bring so much fun, goodness and light to my world.
