Today I headed to the Busch Memorial Conservation Area to take some pictures and to enjoy the day. Unless I’m mistaken, the last time I was there was in July of 2009. Not sure why it’s taken me so long to get back there. It’s a fun place — and apparently I’m not the only one who thinks so. It was packed.
The last time I was there, the lotus flowers were simply buds and the lily pads were still relatively small and new. Apparently there’s a big difference between July and September. So now I’ve seen the end of their cycle. It was fascinating and more than a little surprising.
But, even in decay, there was a strange type of beauty and little creatures still thrived. Tiny fish darted in and out of the moss, bright blue dragonflies flitted about and even a turtle poked his little head between two lily pads.
And lots of these guys fluttered by. Isn’t he beautiful. Sure hope to see a lot of his pals coming through soon. I had one perched on my car when I got back to the lot. I like to think he was waiting for me. 🙂
One thing I did on my last trip to the nature preserve was try out the through the viewfinder technique. I didn’t do that this time, but I did use the Hisptamatic to similar effect…
A lovely day. Next time I won’t wait so long to go back.
