Not all who wander are lost…

Isn’t this neat? A leaf within a leaf!

I don’t know what it was about Powder Valley tonight, but the typical “hey, you seen any deer yet?” friendly-as-can-be nature walkers were replaced by the gotta-get-my-cardio-in-today Spandex set. As one of the huffer-puffers strode towards me, her eyes were fixed on (what I thought was) something on the ground in front of me. Initially I was hoping that she saw something interesting like a lizard or toad or something. But then I realized she was staring at my feet. She looked up at me with a puzzled expression that read, “Are those….?” Yes, dahling. They’re flip flops. And? It’s not like I was being received at the White House or anything. I was on a paved path in the middle of the woods. I’m still not sure what that was all about, but I quickly shrugged it off and resumed my snail’s pace. I just figured she had an endorphin shortage or something.

There was some milkweed in bloom, some lovely wildflowers, a few deer milling about, but that’s pretty much it. Truthfully, I wasn’t looking for much more. I was just happy to wander and breathe it all in. It’s the first time this week that my mind completely emptied out. When I finally made my way to the car, that’s when I looked across the way and saw this:

Well, hello there. Haven’t seen the likes of you around here before. Not certain what had his attention, but he sure was a pretty thing.

  1. Amy says:

I walk my dogs every day in flip flops and most of the time when Joe and I go on a walk I wear them.

  2. Seems completely normal to me! But this woman looked at me like I had three heads or something.
