Muy Bueno

A trip to the party store yesterday resulted in a gold mine of toys, nostalgia and giddiness. In addition to the silly putty and rock ’em sock ’em robot rings, I picked up some wax bottles (nik-l-nip) with fruit liquid inside, miniature etch-a-sketches and these super cute cupcake liners.

Cupcakes are of “mucho margarita” variety from the vegan recipe book. A bad tequila experience from my 20’s has left me with a heightened gag reflex at the smell of lime, so squeezing a bunch of limes wasn’t a thrill. But the end result is yummy. I came home and made these after an all-day training sessions that happened to be held at one of our hospitals. But before I headed home, I wanted to decompress and give my brain a rest. So I headed to the next interstate exit over to take a drive through Lone Elk Park.

This about sums up how exciting the bison herd sighting was. They were all lazing about, snorting and trying to keep their enormous heads upright as they dozed off. Until…

…this Granddaddy, big Kahuna, Grand Pumba, ginormous cranky guy got up — and decided that he didn’t care for one of the cars in front of me. He snorted, blew a bunch of air out his nose and made some weird honking noise. He was really slow getting up, but once he gained a little momentum, he started making his way towards the car in the left lane. That driver high-tailed it out of there. I didn’t know if I should follow suit or what. But Big Daddy wasn’t remotely interested in my car or the other remaining car. He ambled over to the rest of the herd (he at least a head taller than the others), crabbily pushed a few of his companions aside and lowered his enormous self to the ground with a thud, setting off a cloud of dust. It took me a few minutes to allow myself to start breathing again and make my way to the exit.

I remember those wax bottles with the liquid inside! I also remember buying candy cigarettes. Ha.

  2. Oh, I'd forgotten about candy cigarettes! I wonder if they still make those? And remember those edible necklaces?
