Awesome Things

Love this blog (and book) called 1000 Awesome Things. It highlights some of the most random things in the funniest way that makes you go, “Oh yeah, that is kind of awesome…” Like finding the last whole triangle chip in the crumbs at the bottom of the bag, for example. Or Santas with real beards. That sort of thing.

So I jotted down a few awesome things from today:

– The Philadelphia Zoo is featuring an exhibit called Creatures of Habitats. It’s an installation of animals made out of … wait for it… Legos. Does it get any more awesome than a life-sized polar bear made out of Legos?

– One of my favorite photographers, Stacey Winters, had the most gorgeous blog post today. Photos from a trip to Paris. Absolutely magical.

– Pollen has turned my otherwise dark gray car into a strange olive green. Not exactly awesome, but pretty impressive. The tree that is responsible for the nasty yellow-green powder…

– also produces piles of petals that look like snowfall in my office parking lot.

– Mrs. Bird has finished her nest — and really is awesome. It’s perfectly constructed. Even the rim around the top looks like she deliberately used darker materials.

– Coming home to our freshly filled window box is fairly awesome. I have no idea what these sweet little pink flowers are. I just know that they tolerate full sun and are really lovely. So I was sold.

– And finally, there’s Haley, an awesome Golden Retriever that I met on my walk tonight. She started “smiling” and swishing her tail back and forth like a fuzzy windshield wiper half a block away from me. When she was within reach, she threw her entire body against my legs and greeted me like I was her long-lost best friend. She reminded me of the dog from Up. I could almost hear her say (in her best Up-dog voice), “You are the best person in the world and I love you.” I’m sure that next person she met along her route was also the best person in the world, but it sure made my heart happy.

  2. It really is one of the sweetest movies, isn't it? The marriage sequence at the beginning gets me every time.
