Trying…

A nice, long hike today. Green is trying so hard to push its way through. I think I remember from last year that the green cluster of leaves below is a Virginia bluebell, so it should have beautiful flowers really soon. But why a Virginia bluebell would choose to root itself here in the Midwest is a mystery.
Don’t begin to know what the stuff below is. It’s really neat looking, but it’s probably some sort of fungus. So I’m not going to find out what it is. I prefer to continue to think it’s cool.

I love that someone did this. It was so unexpected and it was great to laugh in the middle of the woods.

I don’t know if it was because of the cold, dreary weather, but I saw more deer than people while I was out. Not that I’m complaining. On the short path, I saw a guy walking with his little girl. He was annoyingly animated, skipping and singing that song about “the ants go marching…blah blah blah…hurrah, hurrah.” He was trying so hard that I had to wonder if this was “daddy/daughter” time to make up for inattention during the work week or something. Obviously I couldn’t know that for sure, but for whatever reason, I felt sad for him. I just wanted to say, “Please forget about the ants marching — there are three deer strolling about fifty feet from you. Lose your parental guilt and ask your daughter to look around.”

Freezing here today and lots of snow! Are you at the JM show tonight?

  2. Snow?! You're kidding? You've gotten a ton this year, haven't you?!We opted out of the JM show tonight because it was so expensive. I went online as soon as the tickets went on sale and just couldn't bring myself to do it. If I hadn't invested such a fortune in U2 tickets this year and last year, I would've done it. But I nearly died when I saw what our total would've been. 😦

I actually think my parents in Missouri (and friends in Columbia) have had more snow than us this year. At least this year doesn't seem to be as bad as last year was here which was absolutely brutal. But I had put my coat up and then we got snow today! Argh! Bummer about JM. Concerts are so expensive! We would love to do all the shows in Chicago because there is always something going on but it's so expensive so I completely sympathize. Oh and I don't know if you are a Matisse fan but there's a new exibit at the Art Institute that opened today so we're going to try to make it in the next few weeks.

  4. It seems that we haven't had much in the way of snow, but everything west of here has been hit hard — especially Kansas City. Aren't you so ready for nice weather?! I do like Matisse! When you go, please let me know if it's worth a trip to Chicago for it. I think the exhibit closes just a few weeks before the kids and I will be there.
