Rough weekend, rough day. Change of plans with our little Sophie. Turns out that this is not the right situation for anyone — us, the dog, our cats, our neighbors, the list goes on. Sophie was four months old and just now left her mom and sister. Long story short, she doesn’t like to be alone — and barks loudly and incessantly when we leave the room. This would be fine if we didn’t have neighbors who are adjacent to our townhouse and are home 24/7 and if we didn’t have a cat who refused to come out from under my nightstand and if I didn’t have to bring her to work to socialize her. Happy ending — Sophie is going to a different puppy raiser who already has another lab who will keep her company. Lots of tears, stress and disappointment this weekend. Guess I should’ve anticipated this as a possibility, but I was naive. We really wanted to do this, but it’s too important to get it wrong. Support Dogs has lots of other volunteer opportunities for us, so we’ll just have to come up with an alternative.
Oh, no. I'm sorry, Laura. I know how much you were looking forward to this journey but it sounds like you did the right thing.

Thanks, Amy. It's been an experience, that's for sure. But I'm hoping that this will be better for everyone.
