“Welcome. There’s a lot to look at here and nothing to do.”
Those were some of the first words we heard when we arrived at our resort in Mexico. And honestly, truer words have rarely been spoken.
When I travel to new places, I usually like to cram my daily itineraries with activities from morning to evening, with a goal of seeing and doing all the things. I usually joke that I need a vacation after my vacations. But this trip…this was a different story entirely and quite an adjustment. I remember Sebastian Maniscalco saying in one of his standups, “My idea of a vacation is you eat, you drink, you lay down.” Well, with the exception of my son’s wedding day and a New Year’s Day boat excursion, that’s exactly what I did.
Eat, sun, read, sleep, repeat. That’s about it.
And it was exactly what I needed.

The only less than amazing critique I would offer from this trip is the iguanas. They were everywhere. I could never get used to having those freaky reptiles hanging around if I lived there. They look prehistoric and utterly creepy. Even their tracks on the beach weirded me out.

But everything else? Perfection.

Seriously, I need to remember to put “nothing” on my to-do list a lot more often.
