“Because that’s not what kindness is. It’s not doing something for someone else because they can’t, but because you can.” – Andrew Iskander
Today when I went to pick up some flowers at lunchtime, I couldn’t choose between a few bundles — so I decided to get all three. When I got to the register to pay, the cashier asked, “Are any of these for you?” “All of them, actually,” I replied. He took one of the bundles from my hand and put it into my bag without scanning it. “Well, this one is on us today,” he told me.

This week has been inordinately stressful (as will the next few weeks, if I’m honest), but this lovely gesture truly turned my outlook around. This cashier had no idea that his timing was so great, but that really wasn’t the point for him. He had an opportunity to be kind and he took it.
That’s what kindness is.
