The call

“The world has lost Robert Redford, Jane Goodall, and Diane Keaton in one month. Three extraordinary souls who reminded us what it means to live with purpose. Their legacy is a call…to rise with kindness, to protect what is sacred, to create boldly, and to love without apology.

The next chapter belongs to those brave enough to be human in the most beautiful way.”

News of Robert Redford made me sad, but warmly nostalgic. News of Jane Goodall made me cry, but filled me with gratitude for the tower of greatness she was and for her gifts to our world. But Diane Keaton…that news truly broke (and continues to break) my heart. What a delightfully funny, smart, supremely talented, bold, and unapologetically unique human. I love how odd she was and how fully she owned it — always with that radiant smile. I want so much to live like her. The world of entertainment feels dimmer today with this loss. And oh, won’t The Family Stone feel even more emotional this Christmas. Oof.

But having these three giants pass at the same time brings into focus what it means to live an extraordinary life and what attributes leave a lasting legacy. I thought the opening quote I saw on Facebook summed it up perfectly.

It’s definitely given me pause and prompted me to reflect on how I can live more authentically and with purpose. So while I’m profoundly sad, I’m also grateful.

Note, I had another cookie class today, this time with my daughter-in-law’s friends. Whereas I found a ghost face in the creation of yesterday’s icing colors, today I found a heart – shown above. Also quite fitting.
