Rock ‘n’ Roll

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.”
– Dr. Seuss

Bright and early this morning, my big brother chose to steer himself towards our beautiful downtown.
Big brother and approximately 13,000 of his closest friends.

And this is where he was headed.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon!

(Now that I think about it, I guess could’ve found a better quote than Seuss. My brother would probably say that the brain doesn’t necessarily play any part in choosing to run 26.2 miles.)
But lemme tell ya…my brother rocked it out.

Here he is in his corral, waiting for the start.

I’ve never seen a half or whole marathon in person, so this was surreal. My brother’s corral was long gone by the time I took the photo below. Look at all those runners. Just a sea of people. It was awesome.

(A little early morning political humor for good measure.)

After the waves of runners subsided, I parked myself at the finish line to watch and wait.
It was so much fun to see the finishers roll in. There was such a sense of joy and accomplishment on so many faces.

But this finish was my favorite. Check out my big brother.
He ran a personal best today…missing a Boston Marathon qualifying time by 25 SECONDS.
Unbelievable.

What a great day! What an experience.
Amazing job, John! So, so proud of you!
