Life is Good

“Be thankful for the mess to clean up afterwards because it means you are surrounded by friends, the clothes that fit a little too snug because it means you are well fed, the lawn that needs mowing because it means you have a home, and the aching muscles at the end of the day because it means you have been productive.”
As a nod to this Thanksgiving message on Hipstamatic’s facebook page, here’s a look at our Thanksgiving through the lens of my Hipstamatic. I must admit that, with a few slight modifications, this quote is spot on. Take, for example, the snug pants and being well fed. Pants are indeed snug. And we were beyond well fed. Tonight I’m thankful for…successful new recipes, a drama-free meal and sweatpants with elastic waistbands.
I don’t have a lawn that needs to be mowed (let’s talk leaf removal), but I do have a home — and a lot of cleaning went into today’s preparations. Mostly due to these furry creatures whom, though they are a mess, we love dearly. Tonight I’m thankful for…our warm home that welcomed many loved ones today — and every day provides shelter to my two awesome boys and our two very special kitties. Kitties who scoured my floor for turkey scraps all day.
Mess to clean up? Oh yeah. And then some.
Mess or no, we were indeed surrounded by people we love. Some we are lucky enough to see often, others we wish we could say the same. (below: my dad with his brother and sister — does it get any better than hearing stories about their childhood with years like “1940” and “1932” thrown into the conversation?) Tonight I’m thankful for…family who is willing to travel to make sure we get be together for a day of food and football.
Yes, there are aching muscles, but oh…my feet. My feet are indicating that I’ve been really, really productive. Tonight I’m thankful for…plush, cozy Hello Kitty slippers and a warm bed.
Tonight and every day I’m thankful for so many things, large and small… our family, our friends, our home, my job, God, chemo that is seemingly being very gentle with my son, cool breezes, crunchy fall leaves under my feet, kitty purrs, sea salted caramels, our life, our laughter…the list goes on and on and on. Life is so good.
