I know that we’re supposed to be content in all situations, but I am so itching for an adventure. It’s been far too long since I’ve seen, learned about or experienced something totally new outside of our zip code. It’s really driving me nuts. And watching this wonderful movie about Phil Keoghan’s trek across the country this evening did not help matters. Admittedly, the wonderful dude behind the Amazing Race has much loftier ideas of what qualifies as an “adventure” than this mother of two. But his get-off-your-can-and-do-something-fabulous-by-the-time-you’re-forty philosophy further unsettled my already restless spirit. Especially given that I’m, well, turning 40. (Yes, I said it.) Above is a photo from last year’s New York birthday trip (here and here) – one of my favorite adventures I’ve ever had. And exactly one year later, I’ll be on a birthday road trip adventure with the boys. And I’m already excited about more adventures to come — including at least two trips to Chicago, a return trip to the Upper Peninsula, and several new hiking trips. It’s not a bike trek across the United States by any stretch, but I’m so excited about what this year holds.
