My New Friends

Well, lookie who I met today. A much-closer-than-expected introduction to the burros on my daily route to work. For months I’ve been driving by this little field, trying unsuccessfully to get a photo of the burros or their offspring. Sometimes they’re there, sometimes they’re not. But this morning I saw them. I had my long lens in the front seat with me because I thought I was going to stop in the road and take the photo out the car window. And below is the kind of photo I was expecting to take*.
Instead I pulled over to the side of the road, got out of the car and walked over to the fence**. And these two little guys walked over to see me! They were so cute and curious. They stuck their heads over the fence in a way that made me think that they wanted me to pet them. I was so tempted, but I chose to talk to them instead (do burros bite?). I told them how adorable they were and how happy I was to finally meet them. I don’t think they were particularly interested.
And as I started to leave, I was surprised to see that the baby walked over to say hello. But I don’t think it was interested in me; I think one of the adult burros was wearing the baby’s breakfast. Just the tiniest little thing. And so stinking cute in a baby-burro-kind-of-way.

* Check out the belly on the burro to the left! Preggers, perhaps? Another bouncing baby burro in our future?
** At least I gave a few carpools something to laugh about.
