Sea of Sunflowers

“I am working with the enthusiasm of a man from Marseilles eating bouillabaisse,
which shouldn’t come as a surprise to you because I am busy painting huge sunflowers.”
– Vincent Van Gogh, letter to his brother Theo

My kids have been staying with my folks for the past few days for a tennis tournament. And as luck would have it, I had a meeting in the area today. The kids and I stopped by this field of sunflowers on our way out of town. I couldn’t get close to them without stepping in overgrown brush that seemed like a comfy hideout for icky, slithery creatures. But this field was gorgeous at a distance. I even got an appreciative “Oh, wow…!” out of my not-so-nature-loving kids.
