This and That

The first of many massive magnolia blossoms on the tree across the way from us.
When two of our neighbors walked by and saw one of our kitties sitting in our open window, I heard one of them say, “Hi, Violet!” I don’t know which is creepier — the fact that she knew our cat’s name or the fact that she correctly identified which one was sitting there. Seriously, how could she tell? They’re practically the same cat! But that’s how we’re known by our neighbors: the people with the white cats. Who knew that two indoor cats could be such conversation starters.
Relatively uneventful weekend, but Drew looked sharp for his “in lieu of the junior prom” dinner with a group of friends. He’s so funny. He doesn’t want to go to prom until he’s a senior. Don’t ask me why. But I’m not going to argue. Both kids march to their own drummers and the beats seem to work for them.  This afternoon, they both marched over to their high school tennis coach’s retirement party. He’s hanging it up after (get this) 53 years — an accomplishment that falls between amazing and insane. Two more weeks left in this season — team sectionals and state championships. Hard to believe it’s gone by so quickly. Maybe that’s how he made it through 53 years. Maybe the seasons just flew by. (Who am I kidding? I’m a coach’s kid. I know better. )
