You know those “remember when” discussions that your family brings up every year around certain events or holidays? This photo is one of our “remember when” events. We can’t remember his age for sure, but we think that Drew was in the fourth or fifth grade in this picture. Given that one child in this photo is an infant and the other has a hair bow, you probably guessed where I’m going with this: “Remember when Drew wore the Easter Bunny costume?”
Back when I worked at one of our hospitals, every year we held an Easter egg hunt for all employees’ kids — and the Easter Bunny was the guest of honor. One year, Drew got to be the bunny. He also visited patients in the hospital. Drew remembers not being able to see very well, visiting the hospital and being surrounded by lots of little kids. But I remember how seriously he took his role. Where some kids might have acted goofy, Drew played a character. And that character wanted every kid to feel important. He would gently pat the littlest ones on the head, silently pose for pictures and patiently wait for the rambunctious ones to stop tugging on his tail. The funniest part is that, if he could do this again today, I don’t think he’d do it any differently. He’s still the kindest of souls and he makes everyone feel important.
