Day Two: Tim Burton

Two of the things I enjoy most about New York: you can walk everywhere and there’s always something to see. This cathedral was along the walk to MoMA this morning.
MoMA. I finally made it. Reservation in hand, I was the first person to check my coat at the museum this morning and the first person to pick up my online ticket purchase.
This big light bulb-thing greeted visitors at the stairway to the exhibit.
The sculpture garden behind him had one of the topiaries from Edward Scissorhands.
Unfortunately (but understandably), no photos could be taken at the exhibit, save a few extra things in the lobby. And the exhibit did not disappoint. It was more extensive than I ever would have imagined. Evidently Tim Burton keeps a thorough archive of everything that he does, so there was a TON of stuff to take in: sketchbooks, writings, storyboards, videos, costumes, models, paintings, scribbles, you name it. I had no idea that Burton was such a great artist. But every movie was represented. Edward Scissorhand’s costume was there and I about fell over. It was extraordinary — and it took me a few hours to get through all of it.
After the Tim Burton exhibit, I wandered to the cafe and dropped in on the Monet exhibit. Not a big fan of Monet, but this was impressive.
I had just a little time before I needed to head to the airport, so I wandered around. I made a stop at the National Basketball Association building/store for the boys and watched the skaters at Rockefeller.
Then I headed to the airport. Now I’m home — tired and happy. I finally got to see my exhibit. And it was so worth it.
