Love and love and love

Far too often lately, the state of our world makes me unbearably sad. It doesn’t even matter that my own life is puttering along mostly without incident; everywhere you look, our world and so many people in it are hurting. Cruelty, violence, bigotry, poverty, racism, savage  disregard for the dignity of the individual…the grief becomes too much for the body and heart to carry. It seems that recent news stories have gotten to me more than usual.

Then yesterday a friend gave me a shot in the arm that I really needed. She forwarded an instagram post, saying it reminded her of me. And it’s too good not to pass along:

“Okay, I know that there are terrible, terrible people out there, but listen.
I also know that there are people who stop and smile at tiny plants growing out of the sidewalk cracks, people who laugh so loud they snort,

people who compliment others randomly,
people who take pictures of their friends because they love seeing their friends happy,
people who ramble about things they are passionate about,

people who blush and stutter,
people who are kind,

people who are warm,
people who love and love and love.” – Queens Bees

The post goes on to advise: “The people you spend the most time with have the greatest effect on your behavior, mood and energy, so make sure you are spending time with those who love you unconditionally, laugh with you often, hold your hand when you need comforting, and appreciate your presence in their life.

There is so much goodness in the world, shift your perspective to what you choose to see, and feel the joy of being alive.

Love and love and love and love. “

Of course the things that are weighing me down can’t be fixed with an instagram post. But I desperately needed a reminder that, even though we live in a world that feels like there’s nothing we can do to fix it, we still have work we can do. We can still share our light and extend goodness. We can share something lovely with a friend and tell them we were thinking of them. We can appreciate beauty and little joys. We can pray. And pray some more. And we can love. Love and love and love.

Photos are from recent runs and some over-the-top sunsets.
