Made some new friends at the Butterfly House tonight at the Owls & Orchids event. First I met the owls that were feathered…
Yes, these are alive…and yes, that is that owl’s real expression.
Then I met the other winged owls…1,000 owl butterflies!
Before I walked in, the guide told me that the butterflies were “just waking up”. I didn’t really understand what that meant until the door opened.
They were everywhere! I was greeted by clusters of butterflies flying right at me — and landing right on me. You had to watch every step.
Apparently, these guys aren’t this social during the daytime hours when the facility is usually open. So this is a rare treat, as these evening hours are only available two times a week during the month of October.
It was a little dark to take photos of the numerous orchids on display, but they were lovely, too.
What a great way to spend a rainy Tuesday evening!
